Self-aligning ball bearings have 2 rows of balls, a common sphered raceway in the outer ring and 2 deep uninterrupted raceway grooves in the inner ring. They are offered open or sealed. The bearings are insensitive to angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing, which can be triggered, for instance, by shaft deflection.
This type of ball bearing is suggested when alignment of the shaft and real estate is tough and the shaft might bend. The external ring has a spherical raceway and its center of curvature coincides with that of the bearing; therefore, the axis of the inner ring, balls and cage can deflect to some extent around the bearing center. Pressed steel cages are usually used. Because the contact angle is small, the axial load capability is low. The permissible vibrant misalignment is around 0.07 to 0.12 radian (4 to 7 degrees) under regular loads.

However, depending on the surrounding structure, such an angle might not be possible.
Accommodate static and dynamic misalignment
The bearings are self-aligning like round roller bearings or CARB bearings.
Exceptional high-speed performance
Self-aligning ball bearings produce less friction than any other type of rolling bearing, which enables them to run cooler even at high speeds.
Because of low heat generation, the bearing temperature level is lower, leading to extended bearing life and upkeep intervals.
Extremely loose conformity between balls and outer ring keeps friction and frictional heat at low levels.
Exceptional light load performance
Self-aligning ball bearings have low minimum load requirements.
Self-aligning ball bearings can reduce sound and vibration levels, for instance, in fans.
